We are in the full-swing of upgrading users to Office 2013. A lot has stayed the same and there are plenty of new features as well. The familiar “ribbon” is still the cornerstone of productivity as it has been since Office 2007. The look is now much cleaner and easier to read with more contrast.
Word 2013
- When you close a document Word will save your place and let you pickup working where you left off
- PDF conversion. You can now open and convert PDF documents to editable text. It is not perfect – some formatting issues such as lists will be an issue – but overall it functions well.
- Placing images and even screenshots is even easier than in previous versions
Excel 2013
- Recommended Charts look at your data and suggest the best chart to present your data
- Finally 2 monitor support. Long a bane of Excel users, you can now have multiple Excel spreadsheets open in different windows so that you can reference another sheet.
PowerPoint 2013
- Default slide ratio of 16:9 versus 4:3 to match most modern user’s HD screens
- You can now search through a large online library of presentation templates via the new presentation welcome screen
Outlook 2013
- Outlook likes even more similar to the latest version of the Outlook web app for product consistency
- Social media integration – images of contacts automatically populate from LinkedIn and Facebook profiles
- New “show as” option “Working Elsewhere” in addition to “Out of Office”, “Busy”, “Tentative”, etc.
